The 2019 Riot Fest Lineup

Riot Fest is also known for its full album performances (there are 14 set for this year!) and band reunions, so get excited and get tickets now! There’s sure to be something that strikes your fancy! Remember, there are several stages at Riot Fest, so check the schedule when it’s announced, pick your favorites, and plan out your weekend so you don’t miss anyone on your bucket list…

Blink-182

Blink-182 is enough to get most of us out here buying tickets! After canceling on Riot Fest last year due to health problems, everybody’s favorite punk rock band is making up for it this summer. The trio will be performing their most popular album, Enema of the State, live on stage. Hey, it was basically a life-changing middle school anthem for us millennials! Mark, Matt , and Travis will be playing all your favorites to celebrate the record’s 20th anniversary. Get ready to sing along to “What’s My Age Again?” and “All The Small Things” with thousands of your closest new friends!

Bikini Kill

This pioneer riot grrrl band is getting up on stage for a reunion set at Riot Fest. After playing their last official show together in Tokyo in 1997, they’re joining up this summer for a few gigs. Known for their single “Rebel Girl” and inspiring feminism long before the #metoo movement, they’re back at a very appropriate time. Expect their songs to have new power and excitement in this climate.

Slayer

Thrash metal band Slayer will be performing Riot Fest as part of their final world tour and, more importantly, their last Chicago tour. They’ve always been controversial for their lyrics, imagery, and general death metal vibe, but if you’re a Slayer fan, this is a big moment. This is to be Slayer’s final Chicago/Milwaukee show.

The Raconteurs

Riot Fest will be The Raconteur’s first Chicago show in 11 years! This rock band featuring Jack White is known for hits like “Steady, As She Goes” and “Salute Your Solution.” The Raconteurs have played a number of music festivals all over the world, including that other Chicago music festival, Lollapalooza. This group is a must-see for any guitar-curious fans out there, not only because of the skill level of these guys but the fact that you can see as many as three electric guitars on stage at times.

The B-52s

Another final Chicago show in the mix, this “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster” band from back in the day will say goodbye to the Windy City with their performance at Riot Fest. Check out the B-52s and you’ll be surprised how many songs you know the words to. (Also, remember “Roam”?) With dance-y wedding favorites and songs your mom would love, this new wave band should be a good time!

The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips might have formed back in the 80’s but they’ve been performing at Riot Fest for years to some very loyal fans. The band just released a new LP in 2017, but they’ll be playing the entire (classic) album of Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots and people are already getting pumped about that!

So those are some of the highlights of the 2019 Riot Fest lineup, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This year’s festival will also feature returning bands like Rise Against, Jawbreaker, and Ween (who’ll be performing The Mollusk from top to bottom), Rancid, Descendants, and Violent Femmes (“Blister in the Sun” anyone?).

You’ll also be able to catch Bloc Party (performing Silent Alarm), hip hop group Die Antwood, Manchester Orchestra, and Patti Smith And Her Band (undoubtedly performing the hit and karaoke favorite “Because the Night”). If you were into emo music in high school (or now), you’ll be thrilled to see Taking Back Sunday (performing their two albums Tell All Your Friends and Louder Now) as well as Dashboard Confessional (who’ll be performing all your favorites from The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most).

But again, this is just a snippet of the bands who’ll be performing at Riot Fest this year! There are many, many more on the lineup. Check them all out here. And if you’re into speculating about who else might be there or what songs they’ll play, you can join the discussion on the Riot Fest subReddit.
