On Thursday’s Tonight Show, viewers were surprised with a rare, off-stage Bob Dylan sighting. The legendary musician appeared beside Fallon in a 2-minute sketch, where the two are seated in a theater, looking onto the Big Apple Circus rehearse—with gorgeous, amber colored liquor in hand.
This past April, Dylan revealed his plans for a signature line of whiskeys labeled Heaven’s Door. “We both wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that, in their own way, tell a story,” Dylan said in a statement at the time. “I’ve been traveling for decades, and I’ve been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer. This is great whiskey.” Check out the sly, promotional sketch—scored by Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie No. 1—below.
Though fans were probably hoping for a live performance from Dylan, it was still a treat to see him. “I want to thank Bob Dylan for doing that. He has this incredible new whiskey called Heaven’s Door,” Fallon said back on the Tonight Show set. “Bob, I’ll be having a drink for you right now.”
Dylan’s last late-night appearance was back in 2015, for the final recording of David Letterman as the host of the Late Show. Even though this felt like a tease, fans ought to remember: Bob Dylan concerts are happening most nights at Beacon Theater, until December 3rd. And we suggest jumping on it, as we’re not sure when the next NYC residency will be for Dylan—if ever.
