UPDATE: Bruno Mars has released his first solo single in four years. The new song and title track of his new record, 24K Magic, debuts along with a video featuring Bruno Mars, a contagious dance groove, his backing band the Hooligans, and several champagne flutes. Check out the new video for “24K Magic” below:
It’s been four years since Bruno Mars released his incredible soul/pop/R&B album Unorthodox Jukebox with the help of his incredible backing band The Hooligans. Since, we saw Bruno Mars team up with famed producer Mark Ronson for the contagious hit single “Uptown Funk“. When it comes to being on stage, it’s been awhile since a Bruno Mars tour, but we most recently witnessed the incredible performer alongside Coldplay and in a face off with Queen Bey at the 2016 Super Bowl Half Time show.
Now, just as fans are getting antsy for Bruno Mars to announce his next project, word has it that one of The Hooligans, Jamareo Artis, has spoken to the publication Bass Player about new music in the works: “We’ve been working on the album for about a year, trying different ideas and experimenting. I don’t know what’s going to be included in the final version, but it’s going to have a new sound. So far, the new material is very groove-oriented. It’ll be out sometime this year, and then we’ll hit the road again.” There you have it. Bruno Mars has in fact been working on a new record this past year, one that is groove focused, perhaps influenced by his “Uptown Funk” success.
After scouring the internet for more information, we found some statements made by some interesting collaborative choices, including Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt—who co-wrote grenade—and Skrillex, both who hail from the EDM genre. According to Skrillex, the pair are working on music that is different, “next level”, and unlike most of what’s out there.
We also know that Missy Elliot has listened to four songs from the new album, and according to the hip-hop queen herself, the songs are worth all of the fire emojis in the world. And being vetted my Missy Elliot is no small feat.
We’re not exactly sure when we’ll see him drop his groove-oriented, electronic influenced third LP, but we’re optimistic that Bruno Mars will release a new album in 2016, maybe even this Fall!
We now know that Bruno Mars’ new album, 24K Magic, is due out Nov. 18th. He’ll be performing his first concert this year in Connecticut, this Friday, October 7th. Be sure to catch Saturday Night Live on October 15th, as Bruno mars will be making his 4th appearance as a guest performer. Bruno Mars tickets are available for only three events so far in 2016, but after the release of 24K Magic, we expect to hear news regarding a full Bruno Mars tour.
