Dave Chappelle Is Coming to Broadway This Summer

Though he’s no stranger to the stage, he’s never been on Broadway. Critically acclaimed, Emmy award-winning comedian Dave Chappelle will host a five-run show at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Being the host of The Chappelle Show, in addition to hosting an Emmy winning variety special, makes the actor/comedian a natural fit for the Broadway stage. But we also wouldn’t be surprised if Chappelle performs a show unlike any he’s done before.

“Dave Chappelle Live on Broadway” will run from July 9-13 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. This will be the first time since 2014 that Chappelle has hosted a stand in New York City. Last year, Chappelle and Jon Stewart joined forces for a duo comedy tour which has continued into 2019.

Though his run at the Lunt-Fontanne has been advertised as a solo comedy show, we wouldn’t be surprised if this turns into something similar to 2014’s Radio City Music Hall performances, where he brought out a number of special guests. Tickets for “Dave Chappelle Live on Broadway” will go on sale next week. Historically, these tickets have gone quickly, their prices inflated by Chappelle’s continuing success.

Just this year, Chappelle was chosen to receive the annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor presented by The Kennedy Center. President of the Kennedy Center, Deborah Ritter, stated “Dave is the embodiment of Mark Twain’s observation that ‘against the assault of humor, nothing can stand…and for three decades, Dave has challenged us to see hot-button issues from his entirely original yet relatable experience.”

What does Chappelle have in store for those who witnessing his Broadway debut? Will he call back on his Chappelle Show experiences and provide comedy sketches? Or will the Broadway run resemble more of his Netflix specials? Either way, fans are in for five nights with one of the world’s greatest observers and comedic storytellers.

So mark your calendars, because “Dave Chappelle Live on Broadway” tickets go on sale next week, June 21 at 10 a.m. ET. In the mean time, Dave Chappelle will continue his normal comedy tour, in addition to performing with Jon Stewart, through August 9th.
