According to the well known rumor mill from HITS Daily Double, Eminem, among other artists, are slated to release new albums this Fall. It’s been nearly four years since Eminem dropped The Marshall Mathers LP, and after many moments of speculation and false reports as to when his long-awaited ninth LP would drop, fans were beginning to wonder if they’d heard the last of new music from the Detroit MC.
Eminem hasn’t been completely silent and he certainly hasn’t been unproductive in the four years since The Marshal Mathers LP. Slim Shady teased a new album last October, when he dropped the searing track “Campaign Speech” and tweeted “Don’t worry I’m working on an album! Here’s something meanwhile.” But the months came and went, the renewed Eminem hype died down, and no more singles from the rumored album materialized.

Besides a photo of Eminem and longtime manager Paul Rosenberg pictured at 7-Eleven—the location closest to his studio—which appeared on Instagram this past April, there has been little evidence that the rapper has been at work on a new album. But that doesn’t explain the word given at the release of “Campaign Speech”, a direct affirmation from Slim Shady himself that he’s at work on a new album. Now, to the relief of Eminem fans everywhere, members of his inner circle have begun opening up about his forthcoming LP.
A month ago, news broke that Dr. Dre is working on the LP. “Dre still records,” The Defiant Ones director, Allan Hughes said in an interview. “People don’t know this: Dre records every day. Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album.” Another update came from 2 Chainz, who claims to have heard some of the new material and vouches that it—like many of Eminem’s songs*mdash;has some humor to it.
We hope to hear more from Eminem or his inner circle this Summer leading into the Fall, when HITS Daily Double tells us to expect his ninth LP. Until then, we suggest keeping ears and eyes open during Eminem’s return to the Glasgow Sessions, set to take place August 24th in Scotland. Eminem will serve as headliner, with support from Danny Brown and Run the Jewels. It will mark Eminem’s return to Glasgow since 2013, when he also served as headliner just months before he released The Marshall Mathers LP2. We don’t think this is a coincidence and suggest fans listen for new material or hints as to when he is planning to drop a new album.
Besides music, Eminem continues to work on movie projects. The Detroit MC will be a producer on the upcoming battler rap comedy film, Bodied. The movie, which features the likes of battle rappers Loaded Lux, Disaster, Dumbfounded and Hollow Da Don, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
