Everything We Know About Drake’s Upcoming Album

UPDATE: Following the release of Drake’s instant hit and current Hot 100 chart-topper “Nice for What,” the rapper announced his new album, titled Scorpion. Last week, Drake teased fans with info about his album by posting a photo of himself in a shiny bomber jacket with “Scorpion” stitched on the back.

On the same jacket, Drake announced Scorpion will arrive June 2018, with no date specified. However, he’s set to perform during a super exclusive dinner party at Chateau Le Jardin in Ontario on June 7, which could be the night he drops Scorpion.

We are now entering the tenth consecutive week of “God’s Plan” being on top of the Billboard Hot 100, making this yet another outstanding year for Drake. But what isn’t an outstanding year when you’re arguably the biggest rapper to come out of The Six? Though Drake’s More Life “playlist” dropped just last year, the “Take Care” rapper has proven his work ethic to be amongst the highest in the game. So, with his new project being teased more and more, here is Everything We Know About Drake’s Upcoming Album.

The next single features Murda Beatz.

At the end of March, Drake—via an Instagram Live session on Murda Beatz’ account—revealed he’s enlisted the prolific producer for his upcoming single. Murda Beatz opened up his studio to his fans, and even showed a screen displaying an open file on FL Studio 12, the program he uses to generate his trademark sound. “New single dropping soon produced by Chef Murda,” Drake commented during the stream. Last year, Murda contributed to two More Life tracks, including “No Long Talk” and fan favorite “Portland” with Cubeatz. Though Drake didn’t provide a song title or official release date, we think this single must be due out soon.

Drake is recording in—and for?—Toronto.

Back in August, at the close of his surprise set at OVO Fest, the 6 God announced his new album. Just before dropping his mic and walking offstage, Aubrey Graham confirmed that he was going “back to making this new album in Toronto, just for you.” The announcement was made just five months after the arrival of More Life, and while multiple Drake albums were on the Billboard 200, including Views, Take Care, Nothing Was the Same, and If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.

There are many, unconfirmed collaborators.

Though Drake’s inner circle has remained predominantly tight-lipped about his upcoming project, there have been a few rumored collaborators who’ve opened up about their tracks with the 6 God. London on da Track, who worked previously with Drake on “Sneakin”, spoke exclusively with Rap-Up to discuss his unreleased material with Drizzy. While details remain under wraps, London explained how his working relationship with Drake has grown and what it’s like to collaborate with him.

“It’s immediate,” he says to Rap-Up. “When Drake asks me, ‘Yo, London, I need that heat, though,’ I send him the pack. He just go in, send it back in a few days, and lets me know, ‘I just bodied that sh*t. I went in on that sh*t.’ But as far as music coming out with me and Drake, I don’t want to spoil surprises. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, you’ll see.”

Another possible collaborator to appear on Drake’s upcoming album is Pi’erre Bourne, who joined him for the “Boy Meets World” Tour. In speaking to Billboard, Bourne opened up about his upcoming projects, one being an appearance on Drizzy’s new album. “After this, I got a couple other songs I’ll be putting out,” he said. “I’m going to finish working on my project. Getting Carti’s album going, working on Drake’s album, me and 21 Savage got stuff blowing up. I want to branch off and do other things.”

Drake may have signed a new deal with Apple Music.

The speculation began with the return of OVOSOUND Radio back in March. The program even dropped Drake’s exclusive remix of N.E.R.D and Rihanna’s “Lemon”. Plus, the show debuted Lil Pump’s star-studded “Gucci Gang” remix, which remained an Apple exclusive for several days.

Drake and Apple’s original partnership begin in 2015 and has, seemingly, been a successful one. Drake assisted in launching Apple Music and has since supplied exclusive projects, premieres, ads, visuals, and OVOSOUND Radio for the platform. But last year, Drake indicated he wanted more going forward in upcoming agreements. “Somebody get Larry Jackson on the phone,” he rapped on Lil Wayne’s “Family Feud.” “I need some ownership if we pressin’ go / ‘Cause business is boomin’ on behalf of me / I need a bite out of the apple like Adam and Eve.”

Drake is working hard on the album and he wants you to know it.

Drizzy is making his own contribution to the hype machine surrounding his upcoming project by dropping announcements on social media. On Sunday (April 1) Drake posted an Instagram story of his tired self that read, “You can see the album hours under my eyes.”

Though it seems Drake is hard at work, there is still a huge lack of information about his upcoming project, as the OVO camp likes to keep close quarters when it comes to dropping music. But we think the return of OVOSOUND Radio bodes well for upcoming Drake releases. You can check out the photo of Drake in album mode below.
