Last year, Montreal-based producer and Soundcloud superstar Kaytranada dropped his long-awaited debut 99.9%, which featured guest drummers from BADBADNOTGOOD and Anderson .Paak. The colorful, complex polyrhythmic album garnered critical acclaim across the board, gaining the attention of production moguls such as Pharrell and hip-hop superstar Chance the Rapper. We’ve seen Kaytranada team up with several industry greats over the past year, but just yesterday, the Haitian artist gave us a few tracks of his very own via his original platform, Soundcloud.
Kaytranada informed fans via Twitter that the three tracks aren’t attached to any project, so we’re not sure if it’s quite time to get excited about Kaytranada’s sophomore album. But we’re grateful to see that the producer is hard at work on some new beats. Each of the songs–“Untitled”, “SUS”, and “38”–are short little bangers, though already distinct of Kaytranada’s heavily percussive style. You can check out the tracks below.
Even though the tracks aren’t attached to any upcoming project, we’re hoping Kaytranada released these beats as a means to get fans excited about his sophomore album. But Kaytranada has already put in some remarkable work this year. From teaming up with Alicia Keys for “Sweet F’in Love”, to landing backing vocals on Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (“Lust”), Kaytranada has his hands on some of the best music to come out in 2017.
Check back for more updates on Kaytranada’s highly anticipated sophomore album, and in the mean time, pay close attention to the track credits on newly released hip-hop projects, because we think Kaytranada is a name we’ll be seeing more and more of. If you haven’t already dived into the incredible show of talent that is 99.9%, we suggest jumping on that Kaytranada train before his next project drops. Check out our favorite review of 99.9% here.
