A few months ago, rumors about the Coachella organizers bringing a brand new festival to New York City hit the internet, and as of now they’ve officially been confirmed. Goldenvoice, the producers behind the famed Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, recently announced Panorama, a 3-day music festival that will take place in NYC this summer.
Though originally planned to be located in Queens, Panorama is scheduled to take place at Randall’s Island Park, home to other major music festivals like Governors Ball, Electric Zoo, and FarmBorough. The festival will run from July 22-24, 2016.
That’s just seven weeks after Governors Ball (which takes place June 3-5), and in the exact same location no less. Several months ago, Governors Ball organizers petitioned New York City mayor Bill de Blasio to reject the proposal for Panorama to take place during the month of June due to concern that it would detract from their attendance. They got what they wanted… sort of, though now Panorama is taking place barely a month later in July. Will this new festival cannibalize GovBall’s business? At the moment, I don’t see that happening, what with the spectacular lineup Governors Ball just dropped on us for 2016, but hopefully in the future these two festivals can coexist rather than compete.
There’s no word yet on a lineup or when tickets will go on sale, but we’re expecting Panorama to be a pretty big affair. After all, these are the people that recently scored Guns N’ Roses and LCD Soundsystem reunions. Will either band play the festival? It’s possible. What we do know is that Goldenvoice has promised “a new festival that showcases today’s top music acts.” We’ll be sure to keep you updated as announcements are rolled out.
