Are you one of those brave souls staying in NYC this New Year’s Eve? Well, it must be because you know that even with the intense crowds, traffic, and stress, NYC has the BEST live event offerings for the holiday. Including comedy and concerts, here are the Best New Year’s Eve Shows in NYC.
Post Malone @ Barclays
Due to popular demand, Post Malone has added a second show to his previously announced December 29th show. The pair of concerts are EXCLUSIVE to Barclays, making this a very special NYE event. Post Malone will be playing mostly from 2018’s Beerbongs & Bentleys, an LP that absolutely crushed streaming services upon its release. Rap fans, don’t miss your chance to ring in 2019 with Post at Barclays.
Gov’t Mule @ Beacon Theater
Still going strong since ’94, when Allman Brothers guitarist Warren Hayes and bassist Allen Woody began Gov’t Mule, the southern jam band is now celebrating their 20th anniversary as rock torchbearers. Mule fans in NYC have the opportunity to see the encyclopedia of great American music performed for them on New Year’s Eve, in a beautiful, landmark theater nonetheless.
The Lone Bellow @ Bowery Ballroom
A contemporary force in folksy bluegrass, Brooklyn-based band The Lone Bellow will be bringing their refined, Americana sound to the Bowery Ballroom for three nights, which will culminate in a New Year’s Eve show. Behind their recent EP The Restless, The Lone Bellow will be performing new and old songs, in addition to untamed covers. Young, energetic, and openhearted, The Lone Bellow is a venerable live act to see this NYE.
Snoop Dogg @ Terminal 5
To conclude a very busy year, Snoop Dogg will be performing one big concert at Terminal 5. According to the announcement, Snoop will be a solo act, unlike his most recently stacked “Puff Puff Pass” Tour. Coming off the debut of his cooking show, Snoop Dogg definitely has a lot to celebrate these final hours of 2018. You don’t want to miss partying with the OG.
Phish @ MSG
Though not quite the epic Baker’s Dozen the famed jam band hosted a few years ago, Phish will be returning for what will undoubtedly be three outstanding nights of music. Now a NYC mainstay for ringing in the New Year, Phish are the rock veterans you want to be with when 2019 finally arrives. Want to really blow it up? We suggest splurging for a couple of nights, as Phish tends to differentiate their sets for the diehard fans.
The Get Up Kids @ Rough Trade
Twenty years later, we know The Get Up Kids as one of the formative bands when it comes to 21st century emo music. And their latest EP The Kicker suggests they have retained the punk urgency of their 90’s heyday. Feel like dancing into the New Year, with moves akin to Ramones and Misfits fans? Head to Brooklyn, at their most “DIY” venue, and get down with The Get Up Kids.
NY Philharmonic @ Lincoln Center
Want to live like a fancy sophisticate this New Year’s Eve? Lucky for you, New York City is the best place to do that. Classical music and opera fans will find entertainment and solace at Lincoln Center, where the NY Philharmonic, soprano Renee Fleming, and director Jaap van Zweden will lead audiences through Broadway and film classics, Viennese waltzes, and operetta gems.
Big Apple Circus @ Lincoln Center
Looking to bring your kiddos along this New Year’s Eve? The Big Apple Circus has been dazzling audiences of all ages since 1977. Classic juggling, trapeze, and clowning abound at the Big Apple Circus, not to mention the animal whisperer, who contributes to the organization’s dedication to the humane treatment of animals. Both family and ethically friendly, the Big Apple Circus is a NYC must, if you haven’t already.
The Metropolitan Opera @ Lincoln Center
Strictly black-tie, but worth it for the handsome photos that will come from attending this event. The Metropolitan Opera House is hosting the gala premier of Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur. The production will be followed by a dinner and dance with the artists on the beautiful Mercedes T. Bass Grand Tier. Oh, did we mention the fireworks? This could be the most picturesque New Year’s Eve in all of NYC.
Billy Joel @ Nassau Stadium
We’re not here to convince. We’re here to let you know: Beloved singer/songwriter Billy Joel will be performing just outside NYC this New Year’s Eve, making this an easy choice for those longtime fans out there. Who knows what The Piano Man will bring out during this concert? We hope he pulls out standards like “Vienna” and “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, in addition to the new AC/DC and Zeppelin covers he’s been pulling out in 2018.
New Year’s Eve Spectacular @ Caroline’s
Times Square is going to be insanity. But nearby, at the iconic NYC comedy club Caroline’s, audiences will be cozying up the night’s performers. Wine and dine will be available at the club, which is known for bringing some of the country’s best comedians up on their famed stage. Live DJ and dancing will follow after the ball drops, keeping the party going well into the morning.
New Year’s Eve @ The Comedy Cellar
Known for their legendary drop-ins, such as Sarah Silverman and Norm Macdonald, NYC’s Comedy Cellar is one of the most reliable comedy venues the city has to offer. Though you won’t know who will show-up, or when, The Comedy Cellar never disappoints on their New Year’s Eve lineup. Nestled in Greenwich Village, on the famed MacDougal Street, the Cellar is a great way to experience an iconic NYC scene.
New Year’s Eve @ Gotham Comedy Club
This year, the Gotham Comedy Club will ring in the New Year with host Steve Byrne. This year’s special guests will include Angelo Lozada and Saturday Night Live‘s Colin Jost. Plenty south of the Times Square madness, The Gotham Comedy Club would be the perfect way to catch stand-up on the craziest night of the year, without feeling the city stress. And who knows, Jost may ask other SNL members to stop by.
