The Lumineers & Folk Pop

It seems like, with the rise of bands such as Mumford & Sons and Of Monsters and Men, we should get more acquainted with the term “folk pop.” A third band has arrived on the scene, wishing to prove that they are more than one-hit wonders: The Lumineers.

The Denver band debuted their song “Ho Hey” earlier this year, reaching #1 in the US Alternative chart and #19 in the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been featured on TV show’s like Hart of Dixie and even in commercials for products like Bing. Now, the group has something to prove: that they can move past the massive popularity of their first single.

They seem to be doing just fine – their self-titled The Lumineers album hovered at #11 in the charts, nearly breaking the top ten. Earlier, they toured with folk pop legends Old Crow Medicine Show. This December, they will open for Dave Matthews Band. Two of their songs, despite not being singles, have been gaining steady ground with fans – “Flowers In Your Hair” and “Stubborn Love.”
