Warrior of the Week Episode 6: Jeremy Green

Warrior of the Week

Veteran: Jeremy Green

Branch of Military: U.S. Marine

Warrior of the Week Sgt. Jeremy Green learned to live by a very important phrase: “adapt and overcome.” A fundamental sentiment useful for anyone to know. This is easier said than done, but his service in the military solidified the values already instilled by his family prior to joining.

Jeremy served on active duty as a Marine from 2004-2008 and inactive reserve from 2008-2012.  During his active duty, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and did 1 tour in Iraq. He was a member of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 39.  His field was aviation ordnance (IYAOYAS!). He built, supported, and maintained weapons/ammunition for helicopters. This includes rockets for the overhead support of ground troops. Heroes like Jeremy who serve in this particular field are essential. They need to ensure nothing compromises the safety of the pilot or the ground troops they are protecting. It takes an extraordinary amount of resolve, confidence, and attention to detail to serve in this field. This speaks to the trust his comrades had in him.

image1-minThe importance of family is something quintessential to the life of military personnel and Jeremy is no different. Their comrades are seen as brothers and sisters, but in Jeremy’s case his older brother Brandon, and fellow Marine Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, served as his inspiration. Witnessing his brother’s graduation from Marine Corps boot camp sparked an overwhelming desire to enlist. He knew without question that he would serve our country on that very day.

Since leaving the military, Jeremy has married the love of his life, Megan, and they share a 3 year old daughter.  Jeremy has applied the skills and perseverance he obtained in the military to earn three degrees (an undergraduate degree in finance, an MBA and a Masters in International Management), a CPA license and numerous professional designations. He currently works as a business consultant in the accounting industry.

When I asked him if there was anything else he wanted to add, he ended our call with wanting to draw attention to not only the ones who serve, but the family members as well. He exemplified the burden these families live while their loved ones may face potential danger. These family members are just as much heroic as those who take the opportunity to serve.  He also wanted to encourage people to support service members when they return home and to contribute to veterans suicide prevention causes.

We were proud to send him to the Blues vs. Blackhawks game yesterday to witness his two favorite teams compete at one of his favorite sports. Jeremy is also a huge basketball fan and an avid golfer. Two of his favorite players are LeBron James and Tiger Woods. No one is more excited about Tiger’s resurgence. On July 4th, Jeremy hit a hole in one.  How fitting that a hero hit a shot like that on America’s birthday

Each veteran will be gifted tickets to a concert, show, or game of their choice anywhere in the country. While one night is far from enough, we hope a memorable night cheering on their favorite team or singing along to their favorite artist will show our appreciation.
