Apple has dropped a new Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich) directed commercial for its HomePod, the company’s Echo or Google Home equivalent. Not only is the video a sleek, eye-catching, and purely enjoyable to watch. Jonze’s “Welcome Home” also features the stunning FKA Twigs, her replica, and a new single by Anderson Paak.
In the ad, a listless Twigs says “Hey Siri, play me something I’d like,” and is answered with the mod-funk stylings of Anderson Paak. The scene quickly turns psychedelic, invigorating Twigs to dance her way out of doldrums. FKA Twigs has been relatively quiet since her album release in 2014, with the exception of a few projects released in 2016, so fans were ecstatic and freshly hopeful after her appearance in “Welcome Home”.
The four minute video showcases FKA Twigs distinctive dance moves to the backdrop of Anderson Paak.’s newest single, “Til It’s Over“, which is slated to appear on his forthcoming album—due sometime this year. “Til It’s Over” ended up being the perfect fit for Jonze’s vision and Twigs’ rhythm. By integrating the visual bending of Twigs’ bedroom, the choreography of her body, and the smooth and skittering sounds of Anderson Paak., Jonze brought to life a work that will be lauded and loved on its own.
Apple has definitely stepped up its ad game with this new feature for HomePod. After all, it’s musicians such FKA Twigs and Anderson Paak. that make us crave those professional, intuitive sound systems such as Apple’s HomePod. “Welcome Home” has been released to much delight, especially since “Til It’s Over” remains in Apple Music’s hands for the next two weeks.
