For the past year, Lana Del Rey has been readying her fans for a new album release. The follow-up to 2017’s Lust for Life, an LP titled Norman Fucking Rockwell. After the announcement and singles that followed (“Venice Bitch,” “Mariners Apartment Complex,” and “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it”), it became clear that Lana Del Rey was about to make a moving, deeply personal, pop-sensitive statement. Or so we thought.
Then, months of silence. Lana’s U.S fanbase wistfully watching and waiting as the lyrical starlet toured minimally in Europe. A release date for Norman Fucking Rockwell felt imminent, but never came. Finally, last Friday, some news. Lana took a moment during her set at FIB Benicàssim Festival in Spain to tell fans that her album is “coming out next month.”
While fans have been waiting for the official release date of Norman Fucking Rockwell for around a year now, Lana hasn’t shied away from disclosing details from the LP. We have yet to hear the tune of “Norman Fucking Rockwell”, but we know what the title track is about.
“It’s kind of about this guy who is such a genius artist but he thinks he’s the shit and he knows it and he like won’t shut up talking about it. So often I ended up with these creative types or whatever, and you know, they just go on and on about themselves, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah,'” she explained in an interview with Zane Lowe. “But there’s a little bit of merit to it also. They are so good. I just like the title track so much that I was like, ‘OK, I definitely want the record to also be called that.'”
While on her “Festival Tour” in Europe, Lana Del Rey included Norman Fucking Rockwell tracks in her setlist. But we doubt her promotion will end there, overseas. We think it’s quite likely that Lana Del Rey Will Tour in 2019. So get ready Lana Del Rey fans, because sad girl summer has just begun.
Be on the look out for a Lana Del Rey tour announcement in the coming months, as we think it won’t be too long after the release of Norman Fucking Rockwell. In the mean time: submerge yourself in the Jack Antonoff-produced single “Mariners Apartment Complex“, below.
